 Just a thought... Are you sure that the word attachement has the good
 mime-type (have a look at the message source). I've received more than
 one mail with a word attachment with an octet-stream mime type  (which
 is under the responsibility of the sender mail client)....

Sometimes it's necessary to restart the server if you recompiled the 
translations.

If specified a special php log file in php.ini you'll find the location 
there. Otherwise the errors get logged in the apache error_log.
