There are issues with imap-2001a and php 4.1.x but it should compile at 
least. So you should fix that anyway regardless what c-client version you 
use.

You don't have to "make install" the c-client, it should work if you just 
point configure to the imap sources: configure --with-imap=/path/to/src/imap
