| I'm planning to switch to openldap. Is there a manual on how to setup
| Horde/IMP
There are LDAP options in the dist configuration files but there is not
a manual that I am aware of. I've been wanting to write one but there
are so many variables, such as pam that you mention here, that it would
be difficult. It also depends heavily on your smtp, pop & imap servers,
probably more so than horde.
| to use LDAP for authentication, prefs, and turba? Is pam necessary? what
| files to edit in openldap, in IMP and horde etc...
I would suggest that you first get LDAP working then modifying
horde/turba/sources.php to use the LDAP example at the bottom of the
file. You'll have to substitute your LDAP values for the example
values. Monitor your slapd.log, maillog, imap.log and horde.log or
their equivalents for errors and give it a test drive. Once that is
working it will facilitate getting everything else to work.
BTW, the horde schemas for LDAPv3 are in horde/scripts/ldap although
you really don't need them for turba if my memory serves me right.
Hopefully by the time you finish this all the prefs issues related
to empty variables will be worked out and you'll be able to scale up
and include prefs in your LDAP directory.
You'll also want to look at smtp, imapd/pop3 servers to use. Most can
now authenticate with ldap. I personally like the courier mail suite
with one, authldaprc, configuration file for all rather than a combination
of programs.
I hope this helps,
ed
