[imp] Host of Problems with IMP

Ok, I'm about to pull my hair out, this is driving me insane. I'm trying to 
migrate from TWIG 2.7.5 to Horde/IMP 3.0. I have the following configuration 
(HW&SW):

HW:
Alphaserver 800 (ev56 based)

SW:
RedHat Linux 7.1 (2.4 kernel)
Apache 1.3.19
PHP 4.2.0
UW-IMAP 2000c
Horde 2.0-1
IMP 3.0
Turba 1.0
Sendmail 8.11
Mysql

   These are the problems:
   If I don't touch any of the files, everything works great (except that I 
can't do anything). As soon as I start configuring the files to my site 
(horde.php, registery.php, conf.php, servers.php), Apache starts segfaulting 
and the index.php doesn't load the page completely. For example, the bottom 
bar and the login box appear, but the rest of the page is white (if you want 
to check, you can go to webmail.mechanus.org/horde/index.php). If I place a 
valid user/pass in the login box, it just returns to the login box as if 
nothing happened. The horde.log reports that it can't authenticate (the 
famous line 332 error and now the line 43 error in login.php for horde) and 
the IMAP log says that it can't authenticate the user ????.
   I've been reading the lists, but I can't seem to find the solution there. 
Any suggestions?
