I dont agree with you.
I use SuSE (right now 7.3) too, and everything works well.
The Problem is that the rpms from SuSE for _older_ versions of their
distribution are often not up to date.
To solve this you have to install the sources manually.
It seems that you did not uninstall the rpms and then you got conflicts because
SuSE used a different folder structure.
