[imp] Configure options for Apache / PHP when using a SSL accelerator.

Hello -

I wonder if anyone else has a similar situation and would share their
experiences...

I have a working configuration of IMP 3.x. The entire session is served via
SSL.

To offload the processing overhead of the SSL sessions, I have recently
added an external SSL accelerator device to the webserver. It functions by
transparent proxy of the IP address of the webserver, then passing
unencrypted http traffic to the webserver on an 'alternate port'. I was
planning to build a new apache / php / etc. installation without the mod_ssl
support, to make the http processes lighter.

client <---HTTPS---> accelerator:443 <---HTTP---> imp_server:8080

My question is, will IMP have a problem when I tell it that the sessions
have to be HTTPS, if the apache / php has no support for HTTPS? Is there
error checking in the IMP code for this possibility? If so, how do I disable
it? Can I enable SSL in just PHP and leave the mod_ssl installation out of
Apache?

Thanks in advance for the information.
