AW: [imp] Characters not displayd

I have never written anything in PHP but I've started to find to problem.

I've modified the file imp/lib/MIME/Viewers/text.php
so that the text "The message was created with a different codepage ..."
apears.
But the Characters ä,ö,ü are now displayed as |,v,d
Any idea whats wrong?
