Yes, you are very much right. POP3 is a method
of accessing mails by downloading them. Yet there
is an option in Outlook for POP3 - "Keep a copy=20
on the server". You can use that.

But IMAP is always a better way of accessing mails.
You can access mails from any client anytime. And
when you delete any mail, it is deleted from the server
and reflected in all your mail clients.

And mails are not stored in database. They are stored
on the server. I guess from your first mail that your OS
is Linux - so your mails are in /var/spool/mail/username -
just as you said in your first mail.
