well actually I didn't change anything concerning displaying inline
messages, and the problem appears for  html aswell as plain text
messages too :(

what could be the places (config files...) be, where I had to look for
configuring the inline display settings.

Perhaps these messages only have a html part and you didn't configure
IMP to
show html messages inline?
