Ok I agree with that...
But I'm sure that the server permits plaintext logins beause it is set in the
servers config (allowplaintext: yes). I can verify this also by telneting to it
it and login manually.

However, after applying your patch I get the following error:

  Could not retrieve ACL - Unexpected response from server to: login : 0 BAD     
  Unexpected extra arguments to Login
