[imp] login speed is very slow

I had a similar problem once.

I use UW IMAP and the permissions on my /var/spool/mail directory were 
751.  I had to change them to 1777.
Once I did that, my login time was almost instant.

I don't know if this will help you, but it's hard to tell with the given

information.
