[imp] Full folders claiming to be empty

I have a feeling this may turn out to be a c-client issue, but hopefully
someone will be able to confirm this or point me in the direction.
After weird problems with sessions developed yesterday* I tried
upgrading PHP to 4.3.0, from the FreeBSD ports collection in a vain
attempt to sort this out. This also involved an upgrade of the c-client
to 2000, again from the FreeBSD ports collection.
Following this, on one particular server whilst the folders view lists
all my folders and tells me, correctly, how many messages are in each,
attempting to view a folder just tells me it contains no messages.
Looking at the transaction, a list of message UIDs is returned by the
server, but then IMP just gives up and logs out, without obtaining any
further information on those messages.
I'd done a CVS update a little earlier and hadn't tried this server
since then, so I'm not sure whether the problem stems from that or the
change of PHP version / c-client.
Since I've tried using 2002b, but still see the same problem.
* I didn't manage to solve the session problems and can't reproduce them
out of Horde. The upgrade to 4.3.0 did provide some new information -
apparently the session IDs being generated contain illegal characters.
I've only managed to get Horde/Imp working again by changing the session
handler to MySql.
