Absolute hogwash.  I admin IMP 3.2.1 on a dual 66MHz SPARC with 192MB RAM
and PHP Accelerator, as well as my single Athlon XP 1900+ with 1GB RAM.  The
prior using 3.2.1 and the later using the latest CVS.  BOTH way out perform
Uebimiau and provide much more functionality.  Even though, honestly, it's a
moot point of comparison since IMP is configured to use IMAP whereas
Uebimiau relies upon custom POP3 libraries.

I don't know in which direction to point you to solve your speed problems,
but I can confidently say that I don't experience them here, even with
mailboxes on the dual-66 SPARC approaching 100MB or more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a good deal of tweaking the Horde and
IMP teams could do, but I call bullshyt on your assessment of performance
comparison, especially without better information on your backends (MySQL,
IMAP and POP daemons, MBOX or Maildir, etc.)
