[imp] session counter problem

Thanks for the tips (below).  Your suggestions fixed the session counter
incrementing problem.  I was still having trouble logging in which I
discovered was due to a configuration mistake.  As I was experimenting I
attempted to define a custom session handler which I had forgotten to turn
back off.  It's now all working.  Thanks, again!
