Because my reply was in UTF-8. You should definetly use a better email
client than IMP 3.2.1. ;-)

No, I use it by default (with IMP 4). But we only use iso-8859-1 charactes
in the special characters window for exactly that reason, that it might
confuse mail clients if not sent with the correct charset.
