I use the "sudo" method for this, and it works well.  Don't forget to use
absolute pathnames in the /etc/sudoers file and that it matches your
invocation call in the php code.

If you get "Quota Unavailable" most likely it's because the filesystem
devices reported in the quota -u command don't have matchable fragments as
listed in /etc/passwd.

You can either hardcode the grep command, or modify the method by which
homedir is "calculated" prior to the exec() call.
