[imp] retrieving downloaded folders

In the folders view of email, one of the chosen actions is "download 
folder(s)".

That creates a nice little .mbox file for each, or one for all, 
depending on how the folders were selected.

Is there a way to retrieve the emails AND their attached files back 
into the folders once they have been, say destroyed, deleted whatever?

I know I can read the files with MS IE, but that is only text based, 
and the attached files (Word documents, PDF files, etc.) are 
unreadable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
