[imp] some messages prevent inbox page from loading

I have to apologize, I didn't read your mail completely.
I only did so after I posted my short answer.
It looks as if you've got more or less the same configuration as we do.
But our problems with long headers were solved after we
updated to php 4.3.4. So maybe it was not php itself, but
any library compiled in.
My 'configure':
'./configure' \
'--with-mysql=/usr/mysql' \
'--with-kerberos=/usr/kerberos' \
'--with-openssl' \
'--with-apxs2' \
'--enable-sockets' \
'--with-gettext' \
'--with-zlib' \
'--with-imap=/imap-2002c1/c-client-ssl/c-client.a' \

where gettext is: gettext-0.11.4-7
zlib: zlib-1.1.4-8

On the linux box where webmail is running we have Redhat 9 installed
with kernel 2.4.20-20.9smp and glibc-2.3.2-27.9.6
