Even that is not necessary depending on how you setup IMP/the web server.
I've got a virtual domain setup for several thousand domains on one
installation of IMP where everyone uses http://webmail.their.domain/ as
the webmail URL, and because IMP knows based on the URL used, they only
need to log in as user.  Prefs and contacts get stored for them as
user at their.domain, and IMP does their IMAP sessions as user at their.domain.

If you search the archive, I posted detailed info on how to do this a year
or two ago...maybe longer.
