It is included in the vanilla kernel now, both 2.4 and 2.6.

We have used it for about 3 years, and it works flawlessly. We have two
loadbalacers in a active/passive configuration. The user community is also
extremly helpful. If you are on a tight budget or need extreeme
configurability, linuxvirtualserver is worth checking out.
