[imp] can not send mail

I have got everything working accept for the ability to send mail. When I click on the send message button the message compostion window refreshes as a new message.

My maillog shows
Apr  1 11:22:44 stimpy imapd[3466]: imap service init from 127.0.0.1
Apr  1 11:22:44 stimpy imapd[3466]: Authenticated user=artmanalpha host=localhost [127.0.0.1]
Apr  1 11:22:44 stimpy imapd[3466]: Logout user=artmanalpha host=localhost [127.0.0.1]

Where else can I look for clues to solve this problem?
Or does anyone know what the problem is?
