[imp] client based spam filtering

Hello,

since I am forced to read my mails via IMP- IMAP access from e-mail clients was 
seen as to dangerous-  a lot of spam is accumulating. 
Is there a possibility to filter out that spam on the client side - or have I 
to ask for a server side modification?

There are also other things I'm missing for example spell checking. may be 
there is a java based IMP, having those features?
