[imp] Blocking mail service to a group of user

Setup: latest horde/imp with courier-imap, qmail-ldap.
Situation: Company XYZ uses IMP on their corporate website. But only XYZ personnel can use webmail. 

Now I have to develop an application that is open to the public to use BUT
1. they have to register first (username and password)
2. then they have to LOGIN to use that application

Before access is granted to that application, I would prefer authentication to be handled by Horde/IMP. Is this at all possible for this kind of scenario. Please advise.
