[imp] s/mime key question

I am a customer of a mail system that uses IMP (4.0-cvs). I have a
thawte free email cert that I've used sucessfully with other MUA's, such
as Evolution2, and Thunderbird.

I can't get the key to work in IMP. I've used 'openssl pkcs12' to export
the .p12 cert -- obtained when I exported the thawte key from my browser
-- into a .pem text format.

The above-named mailers only ask for one file to be imported in order to
set up s/mime signing and encrypting. But IMP asks for two, public and
private keys. I cannot discover the manner in which my one .pem file
should be used in order to produce these two keys requested by IMP.

I've tried just importing the whole .pem file for each, public and
private key wanted by IMP. I've tried using openssl to export only
client, and only ca, certs and then used those. I've tried hand trimming
the .pem file to extract private and public parts. Nothing seems to work
when I go to enter my passphrase, which is always found to be "invalid."

Any help would be appreciated!

Best regards,
