[imp] IMAP dropping connection to IMP

I have three different versions of horde installed (stable, alpha, and RC1) and
all exhibit the same problem. When viewing any email that has an attachment
over a few KB the webmail hangs for a long time then finally loads the page but
the attachment usually lists as being 0 bytes. If it is a picture, it is not
displayed and any attempt to view it hangs for a very long time and then
displays an error message (depending on which version of Horde). From looking
at logs and sniffing on the loopback interface it would appear that Horde
requests the data and then never gets it. test.php checks out fine except for a
lack of mcal support.

This is not a new install either. It was working once upon a time. Something
went wrong somewhere and i have been completely unable to trace this back to
whatever change must have triggered it. All processes are on the same machine
(imap, smtp, http, mysql, etc.) Btw, retrieving messages and attachments
through an IMAP client (I use Mozilla Thunderbird), works fine.

Could this be a problem with the cache? perhaps Horde is unable to write cache
data to /tmp for some reason? It writes the log ok but i never see any cache
files from horde there... anyone have any ideas?
