[imp] problems sending mail

When i login to send a mail. i get the following
error:
There was an error sending your message: unable to
authenticate to smtp server
I have postfix+cyrus-sasl authentication. I am able to
login but unable to send mail. what setting do i need
to change such that I will be able to send mail.
I get the following error in my maillog:
Jan 17 18:59:31 rabio postfix/smtpd[15240]: connect
from localhost[127.0.0.1]
Jan 17 18:59:31 rabio postfix/smtpd[15240]: warning:
localhost[127.0.0.1]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed
Jan 17 18:59:33 rabio postfix/smtpd[15240]: lost
connection after AUTH from localhost[127.0.0.1]
Jan 17 18:59:33 rabio postfix/smtpd[15240]: disconnect
from localhost[127.0.0.1]
I have the imp-latest & horde-latest version.
