[imp] logging in to IMP (as initial_application) fails

FYI - I see this same behavior and I use hordeauth for authentication 
also (using pam for hordeauth).  Haven't had time to track this down, 
but the fact that it is not relaiably reproducible makes me think this 
may be an issue with concurrent session access or something along those 
lines.
