Do pay attention to the above warning regarding some bizarre SSL socket
behaviour anomalies with some browsers.  Don't disable SSL3, though -- that's
one option presented in the mod_ssl FAQ.  Disable the EXPORT56 ciphers.

Be aware of recent SSLv2 problems requiring an update of the SSL libs.

As mentioned before, this isn't an IMP/Horde issue, but an Apache/SSL one. 
You can buy inexpensive SSL certs which are very well supported for about
US$60ish/year.

freessl.com is a good one (single root/no-chained cert) and gives you $5 off
if you try their free cert for a month, etc.
