[imp] problem adding contacts from IMP in Address book

we recently noticed that address book entries were badly formatted when 
adding addresses from IMP by clicking on the "add to address book" icon 
next to the address I want to add.

An address showing up in an email message source as:
From: monitoring at address.com

will be added and appear in the address book as:
Name   	"" <monitoring at address.com>
Email  	""

if using this entry to compose a message, the To field will show:
"\"\" <monitoring at address.com>" <"\"\" <monitoring"@address.com>>

any ideas as to what might cause the contact entry format to be messed-up?
