The virtual host part is not absolutely needed if you're OK with 
a different URL for the "other" version e.g. http://myserver.com/horde.new/
In that case, a common gotcha is to omit setting
$conf['cookie']['path'] accordingly.

Yup. E.g. between 3.0 and 3.1: no joy, DB schema has changed, so you
need to have to use different DBs thus no common address book between
the two worlds, a major problem.
