[imp] IMP 4.1.1 Does not display various messages correctly

I've googled, searched the Horde Wiki and FAQS to no avail, so if this
is something that everyone has seen before, I'm very sorry. 
 
I've installed IMP 4.1.1 on an s390x SuSE Linux image. I've got Horde
3.1.1, Apache 2.0.49, and PHP 4.3.4 installed. I've also got various
PEAR and PHP modules and extensions loaded, but the one I'm questioning
is "Fileinfo-3.0.1". To date, I've been unsuccessful in getting this
installed on my system. 
 
My question is, would this affect IMP's ability to determine a piece of
mail's mime type? When I checkmark an email in IMP and click on "View
Messages" I can see the email, but if I just click on the email I get
nothing. This applies to various mime types (text/html, plain/text,
etc). Yes, I do have "$mime_drivers['imp']['html']['inline'] = true;"
for most of the mime_drivers. I also have noticed that by changing the
"default charset" in the "IMP" "Message Viewing" options panel, I get
different outcomes based on the mime type. When I select "ISO-8859-1", I
get the most viewable messages, as opposed to "US-ASCII" where very few
messages are viewable. If you need anymore information, please let me
