[imp] XML-RPC woes

In order to call IMP's authenticate (so that a user logs into Horde), I have 
to authenticate the same user first, via HTTP basic authentication? Sounds 
like Catch 22.

Should I append HTTP basic authorization data to my call to IMP's authenticate 
method? Should I really send the user id and password twice, once in HTTP 
basic auth, once in XML-packed format?
