What kind of mailserver to you use? Sorting on caching IMAP servers
like "cyrus-imapd" is normally pretty fast, even on slow machines.
Sorting 3900 mails on a 800 Mhz Celeron takes about 3 seconds
on an old IMP / PHP4 installation.
