  Unresolved problems
[edit] Addressbook button in composition screen bug

     * If you choose addressbook in composition screen in imp 4.0, it
would list the people in your addressbook in the left hand column.
     * If you choose addressbook in composition screen in imp 4.2, you
have to choose "my addressbook" from the drop down in the upper right
corner, and then choose "search" for it to display the people in your
addressbook. Users prefer the old behavior.
     * Tracy has found that this is a bug. The addressbook popup
actually has the same behavior as in 4.0, but is incorrectly
displaying the 2nd item in the list at Address Book -> Options ->
Address Books (note: NOT Options -> Address Books) instead of the 1st
item. You may need to activate the address books by moving them to the
right hand column before this will work.
     * Workaround 1: Have the user select "My Addressbook" and then
click "search" in the popup. (They do not need to type anything into
the text field).
     * Workaround 2: Have the user make "My Addressbook" 2nd in the
list at Options -> Address Books. However, once this bug is fixed,
they will need to change it back (make "My Addressbook" 1st again).
     * Update: In testing. Turns out that Kris' fix was originally in
RC4, but we can't upgrade to RC4 due to other problems. So we're
asking Kris to back port both his fix and the other related changes
that appeared in RC4 to RC3.

[edit] Sent Messages are Blank

     * Firefox 2 on Windows XP and MacOS X 10.4, 10.5, with the spell
checker turned on, the message will be sent blank and also be stored
in the Sent Mail folder as blank
o NOTE: to work around this, we have temporarily forced
Xinha to be the default editor for everyone (As of 3pm Friday, May 9th
-- users logged in at that time will need to log out for this to take
effect for them). We will re-enable a choice of HTML editors once this
problem is fixed.
o Workaround: Turn off automatic spell checking and make
sure you 'Resume Editing' before sending if you use the manual spell
checker
o Workaround: Switch to Text composition
o Update: Liam reports that under RC4 an unspellchecked
version of the message will be sent. So the problem is not solved yet,
but least under RC4 the sent message is no longer blank.

[edit] Subfolders don't show

     * When you have a folder named with a space (ex. ABC 123) and a
second folder named with just the first portion of the first folder
(ex. ABC), subfolders in the second folder (ABC) will not be visible
o Workaround: Renaming the folder with the space in it to
have no spaces fixes the problem. Removing the space or using an
underscore will work.

[edit] WYSIWYG editor does not work under Safari 3

     * To solve the WYSIWYG editor problems under IE7 (see below), we
have temporarily forced everyone to use Xinha.
     * Only Xinha 0.95 (released on May 12, 2008) and later support
Safari 3, see http://xinha.webfactional.com/
     * So since 3:30pm on Friday May 9th, Safari users have been
unable to compose HTML messages.
     * Ziba suggests modifying the code to select an editor based on
browser rather than horde preferences: Safari 3 users get FCKEditor,
everyone else gets Xinha.
     * Or we can wait for a new Horde release that includes Xinha 0.95
or later.

[edit] WYSIWYG editor does not work under IE7

     * When composing as HTML under IE7 (FCKEditor), HTML editor
toolbar may not show up and message may be displayed as raw HTML. OLC
ticket 207460.
o Workaround: Go to Options -> Message Composition, change
from FCKEditor to Xinha.
o NOTE: to work around the "Blank message" problem above,
we have temporarily forced Xinha to be the default editor for
everyone, which also fixes the "WYSIWYG editor does not work" problem
for IE7 users (As of 3pm Friday, May 9th -- users logged in at that
time will need to log out for this to take effect for them). We will
re-enable a choice of HTML editors once this problem is fixed.

[edit] Spell checker hangs

     * IE7 user with automatic-spell-checking-before-sending turned
on. Character set is "Western (ISO-8859-1)" which is the default (but
the problem does not occur if you select, for example "Baltic" as the
character set). When replying to an HTML message, the spell checker
hangs when the user clicks "Send".
o Workaround: send message as text, not HTML -- or,
o Workaround: turn off automatic spell checking -- or,
o Workaround: switch to a web browser with built-in spell
checking such as Firefox, Safari, or Opera.

[edit] IE7 address auto-complete bug

     * Under IE7, the first thing you type in the "To" field in the
"New Message" window will not trigger a search.
     * However, if you erase it and type something else, a search will
be triggered (that is, the problem only appears for the first thing
you type in a field).
     * Ziba reports that this problem appears to be fixed in RC4.

[edit] Message formatted/displayed incorrectly

     * Messages with weird line breaks, especially when printing.
o One user reports that it happens when hitting command-P
but not when clicking on the IMP "Print" link.
o Mark can duplicate what *might* be the problem with
certain HTML messages; but the linebreaks are in the original message
and IMP is operating properly.

[edit] Autocompletion of addresses works incorrectly

     * Choose "new message", type "abuse", wait for it to suggest
things, then type in @umich.edu and hit return. It'll suggest Zain
Abuseir <zaina at umich.edu>@umich.edu
           o don't wait?
     * Auto complete an entry that has a email address formated like
"Joe User <juser at umich.edu>".. It'll suggest Joe User <"Joe User
<juser"@umich.edu>>
o alter the addressbook entry to read "juser at umich.edu" -
you can't add the bad style to new entries.. they'll all be legacy
entries. Should we search turba_objects and reformat those addresses?

[edit] Appending domain to addresses is not working

     * When a new message is composed, type "joeuser" into the "To"
field, then click in another field. "@umich.edu" does not get added,
despite Options -> Message Composition saying that it should be added.

[edit] WYSIWYG editor slow to load

     * Chris reports that when the Xinha editor is used to reply to a
message, the HTML source of the message appears in the reply box for a
few seconds while the editor loads. This is unappealing.
o Can we make it faster?
o Can we hide the source until the editor is loaded and ready to go?
o Does the same problem occur with FCKEditor? (Note:
FCKEditor is temporarily disabled because of the "blank sent message"
and IE7 problems above).

[edit] Identity options

Horde will accept things that are not syntactically correct email
addresses for the "From" and "Reply To" fields in identities. The most
common problem is that users will enter their displayName into one of
these fields, not realizing that an email address is needed.

[edit] Safari problems (general)

     * A user must be on MacOS 10.4 or later to have a version of
Safari (2.x or later) that will work with webmail.
     * Users of 10.3 or previous will need to use a different web
browser, as Safari 2.x is only available for MacOS 10.4.2 and later.
     * Safari 1.x does not work with the new version of webmail, see
OLC ticket 207434.
     * WYSIWYG (HTML) message editing is only available under Safari
3. It does not work under Safari 2.x or 1.x.
     * If a user is having problems with Safari and cannot upgrade to
a newer version of Safari, options include:
o Firefox (unknown which versions will work under 10.2 and earlier)
o Opera (unknown which versions will work under 10.2 and earlier)
o Netscape 7.0.2 (verified to work with the new webmail
under MacOS X). It can be downloaded from
http://browser.netscape.com/releases

[edit] MacOS 9 problems

     * IE 5 under MacOS 9 does not work with the new version of webmail.
     * Netscape 6 under MacOS 9 does not work with the new verion of webmail.
o NOTE: Netscape 7.0.2 DOES WORK with the new webmail,
although we've only tested it under MacOS X and not MacOS 9. This is
our current recommended solution for MacOS 9 users. It can be
downloaded from http://browser.netscape.com/releases The MacOS 9
version is labeled "Mac PowerPC".
     * The latest release of iCab does not work.

[edit] Cosmetic stuff

     * Two ways to get to Inbox: Inbox button and Mail button; may be
confusing to users.

     * Under "Options", Xinha HTML editor choice; may be confusing to users.
