That's not entirely true. Do you have any data to back that up?

FWIW, I've found using Lighttpd instead of Apache a great solution for  
reducing memory usage. I've been using it exclusively for a few years  
now.  There is a what I would call a tiny learning curve in initially  
setting it up, depending on how many custom rewrite rules you already  
have in place (as the syntax and abilities are not 1:1).
