Don't use POP3.  Ever.  IMAP is stable and has plenty of clients that  
support it, so there is no reason to continue to use POP.

POP is completely worthless when it comes to a disconnected client,  
because it requires the *entire mailbox* to be downloaded on *every*  
access.
