But is a good exercise to get to know Horde. After making it to work  
this way, wich is much easier, you can move to do what you need.

I am not a dovecot expert, but in general you dont need that, just set  
dovecot.conf:
protocols = imap imaps

What is in your horde/imp/config/backends.php ?
