Do you want to run the update from the command line in a cron job? If so, are 
you using command-line php (scripts/cli-backend.php) or a shell/wget/lynx combo 
(scripts/cli-backend.sh).

If you're using PHP, then you just need to specify, in $conf['cli']['user'], a 
username that is in the $conf['auth']['admins'] array.

If you're using shell, then you just pick whatever username and password you 
want, put them in $conf['auth']['http'][... etc.] and modify scripts/cli-
backend.sh to send them.
