mcal problems

Well, here's my setup:
Apache 1.3.9
PHP 4.0.3pl1
mcal - latest version from CVS

Everything compiles fine. No problems there.

but when kronolith gets to
$stream = mcal_open('{/mstore}', $kronolith_user, $kronolith_pass);

it bombs out with an error of:

Warning: Couldn't open stream {/mstore} in
/home/sites/main/web/horde/kronolith/test.php on line 2

I followed the installation instructions to the letter:

ls -ld /var/calendar
drwxrwxrwt    2 nobody   nobody       1024 Nov 10 08:53 /var/calendar/

ls -l /etc/mpasswd
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root           21 Nov  3 11:21 /etc/mpasswd

Nobody on the mcal mailing lists knew the answer. So I'm still stuck.
