got some sleep last night; but your nearly right. 
i got the latest mcal from CVS compiled it without problems and i compiled PHP 
against this lib. PHP works and shows me that there should be mcal support.
the stange thing is, PHP gives me a debug.log telling me that there are some 
unresolved symbols in conjunction with the mcal lib.

but i think you're right with your advice -> as times go by this thing will 
find a solution.
