I'm a bit rusty on SQL, but as I recall, the ISO date standard
(YYYY-MM-DD) is supposed to be supported in ANSI SQL. So, in theory,
any "real" SQL should have that data format. It may be called
something different, so you're right that we would need to document
schema differences.
