I'm claiming two things:

1) We didn't get any errors, and the calendar worked (for the way we used it).
2) We didn't really have a use for categories, and they were not required
   in order to use the calendar before (and now, I assume, once again).  It
   may not have saved them, but that was okay, because we just plain were 
   not using them anyway.

I saw your patch, and think it is the correct solution.  Thanks!
