[kronolith] what does the "alarm" setting actually do?

I am a bit confused as to what the alarm function actually does.  I have 
set it for varying time frames of 15min up to much longer and I have yet to 
figure out what it does. Is it supposed to notify me somehow?

Maybe its broke and I dont even know it.
