This is now fixed in CVS. We were returning true from addCategory() instead 
of the $pid just added, and this screwed up the auto-create logic, so that 
any auto-created parent would be encoded as a parent of 1.

You'll have to either manually fix up your categories tables or clear them 
out, but this problem should be nailed now.
