it is beginning to sound like I should be using some version close to,
if not actually, cvs head. If you think that is a wise course of
action, I will try installing cvs head trying to reproduce the problem.

not surprised. It's hard to verbally describe a GUI (as any speech
recognition user will tell you).
enter a new event. For that event, set it to repeat on a weekly basis
for "N" weeks. go back and look at the calendar. You will only find
the new event on the initial date. Now this might be because of bugs in
1.1 that have been eradicated in the latest version. Again, if you
think it is wise, I will try out cvs head and see what goes away.
