Either by responding to an iTip attachement that they receive (if they have a
mail client or help application that can handle such attachments) or by having
the user click on web page links embedded in the invitation message.

Give it a try and see - add your email address as an attendee, check 
the box to
send updates/invitations to attendees and observe the results.
