Depends on your setup.

Depends on your setup.  There are ways via PAM (and Samba) to sync the
unix and samba passwords.  The CVS HEAD version of the passwd module
also has direct samba support in it (as an alternative to poppassd).

I'm not sure of your setup, so I can't really offer more advice than
just the above information.
