Ahh, yes, that works a lot better. I'm still having trouble, since
$user seems to have "@domain.com" stripped from it. If there's a
quick answer to how to keep the full login name, I'd be done (and
relieved)... But this is a big step in the right direction, thanks!

I'm a little surprised that the documentation for the modules doesn't
include version requirements in the prerequisite section of the INSTALL
files. "Your version must be this tall to ride this attraction."

That's a minor nit, though -- the amount of work and polish that's
gone into horde and modules is very impressive, and I'm grateful
for it.
