I'm sorry, but this can't be right. First of, it's only a minority who
compile php themselves. Of this minority, you then find the minority who
uses Horde and Forwards, but not IMP. I don't think you will find many of
these folks! Compare this with the number of people who have trouble getting
PEAR working (like myself, as my third point was a clear example of).

Besides, by the above logic, every non-core php function should be moved to
PEAR!

I ran 'pear update' just recently (~2 weeks ago), but I'm not much into
PEAR, so you are probably right.
