[sork] popassd error

i have proble whn i use telnet to loclhost 106 below is the error

root at xxxx# telnet localhost 106

200 poppassd v1.8.5 hello, who are you?
xxxx
500 Username required.
Connection closed by foreign host.

i tried some other usernames too still its just come to 500 username requied 
 please need help on this
